Are you running it with "run" in front like you wrote it, or is that a typo? It should be "rclone --vfs-cache-mode writes mount onedrive: ~/OneDrive". At first I thought that maybe it no longer works in the latest rclone version, but I just installed it, and it still works. Make sure you're using a recent rclone version, and if it still doesn't work you can report a bug: https://github.com/ncw/rclone/issues.

Thanks!! This is a life saver. I had Ctrl-c'd out of rclone whilst still have the OneDrive dir open in another terminal tab. This caused the unmount to fail I was left with my OneDrive dir in a weird state. This command cleaned things up nicely.

It's hard to tell with so little information. Does it work when you run the "rclone --vfs-cache-mode writes mount onedrive: ~/OneDrive" command? Or do you see any error message?

Also, it may take a bit until the files start showing up in the ~/OneDrive folder, depending on how many files and folders you have in your OneDrive account and your Internet connection.

Thanks, I was able to do the whole installation as described I physically executed "rclone --vfs-cache-mode writes mount onedrive: ~/OneDrive" and I have also added the instruction to the startup file. However, Onedrive is not syncing?

I fail to understand why anyone would bother to have any sync'd folders on their machine like Google Drive, Onedrive or any other when they are so convenient to use on the web using each provider's native office software. MS has the entire Office Suite available for use online, even. It works really well, you never have to worry about it being recognized as a drive by malicious software, and it's always accessible no matter what computer you are using. If you need something offline all the files are easily downloaded.

Rclone maps these characters to identical looking Unicode equivalents, like ? to ？" That sounds pretty much like a disaster to me. If you can't do it right, don't do it at all, not something that will create problems down the line!

Another way of adding it to startup is to create a file called onedrive-rclone.desktop in ~/.config/autostart/ with the following contents:

It looks like you're trying to use Rclone as root. That's not recommended and why this doesn't work for you. Try using it as a regular user and it should work.

This was very helpful, however I am having problems with mounting Onedrive automatically on system start. I used the code from the example, and it works if you restart shortly afterwards, but there appears to be a problem with the app's access to OneDrive expiring, so that it no longer works later on. When I try to mount onedrive manually I receive the following error:
"Failed to create file system for "onedrive:": failed to get root: Get https://redhalldudley-my.sharepoint.com/_api/v2.0/drives/me/root:/: oauth2: token expired and refresh token is not set"
